Flows to the Future

Commissioned by RSPB Scotland on behalf of The Peatlands Partnership, CB Arts were approached by Ian White Associates with their concept designs for viewpoints and access for visitors to the 'Flow Country’ of Caithness and Sutherland, as part of the Flows to the Future project.

This vast expanse of blanket bog is widely recognised as the largest in Europe, and is currently on the tentative list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, under consideration for its internationally significant ecological and biological processes and biological diversity. The key aim of the project is to create a greater appreciation for one of Britain’s most important natural assets for habitats, conservation and carbon storage.

The viewpoints form part of the branding of the Flows to the Future, building on recognition achieved by the stunning Forsinard Tower designed by Icosis Architects. The new viewing platforms, interpretation and seating is designed to encourage visitors to stop, enjoy the views of the spectacular landscapes and learn of the interest and importance of peatlands. With increased knowledge it is hoped will come support for sustaining the Flows into the future.

Material: Weathering steel, laser cut, timber seating.
