The distance separating these two markers is equal to the depth of a mining shaft previously worked at this site. The steel cones contain limestone from the area and have horizontal lines representing the depths of the coal seams below. The radial steel plates name the mineshafts.
The blue dot near the top of the cone indicates sea-level, illustrating nicely how deep the shafts went!Back to Sculpture Contact Us
