After many months of training Andy and Des finally completed their Marathon on Sunday 28thApril.
The day brought perfect running conditions to the City of Stirling and as they boys ventured out towards Bridge of Doune on their first ever marathon it soon became a day of lessons learnt…
Des very soon mastered the ability of catching jelly babies one handed thrown by small children from the roadside and also realised that being overtaken by someone in fancy dress isn’t the end of the world (it just feels like it).
Andy quickly realised that despite the fields of Bannockburn being relatively flat Scotland has far more than its fair share of hills and that after 26.2 miles the only pub you want to see is one on the level with disabled access.
At the end of a long day Andy finished in an admirable 4 hours 28 minutes, while Des fought a valiant battle around the Wallace Monument with Elmo from Sesame Street to come in at 6hour 8 minutes.
We’d like to thank everyone who supported, encouraged (and occasionally questioned their sanity) over the last four months, it was all very much appreciated. Likewise the ‘Just Giving’ page is still open and any more donations we can get towards St. Mary’s Hospice are always hugely appreciated.
Would they do it again?........ you’ll have to ask them!
