October the 6th was the official opening of the Andover Flight and Navigation sculpture which was fitted last week. The ceremony was conducted in the pouring rain by the Mayor of Test Valley, Councillor Jan Lovell.
Although a sheet large enough to cover the sculpture could not be sourced the interpretation panel was concealed by the last flag to fly at RAF Andover which was removed in a grand unveiling to mark the official opening of the sculpture. The flag had been stored by Councillor Ian Carr, a former RAF Aircrew Officer based at Andover.
Afterwards a reception was held in the Chalkhill Blue pub where scores of planes, drawn by local children, had been hung from the ceiling.
There is a great write up and more pictures of the occasion on the Andover and Villages website: http://www.andoverandvillages.co.uk/andover-news-in-andover-and-villages/1124-new-sculpture-takes-off-at-former-raf-base#!andover_new_sculpture_unveiled_former_raf_base_chalk1_013
