As World Book Day approaches it seems like a timely opportunity to share details of the 'Books to Birds' project  we designed, manufactured and installed at Dowdales School, Dalton-in-Furness, Cumbria.  The project also included several signs around the school complex.

Inspired by education and the natural environment the sculpture depicts a  'learning to fly theme'.  Books to Birds celebrated the opening of a new library at the school and also created an outdoor reading area for pupils.

Books to Birds was one of the very first sculptures commissioned to Chris Brammall, which - to this day - remains an iconic project in Cumbria.  The materials used - Corten, stainless steel and timber - have proven to stand the test of time and the sculpture looks as fresh today as the day it was installed.
