The tree is down, cards recycled and with only a few pieces of Christmas cake left in the kitchen (which won't be there for long) the festive holiday is beginning to feel like a distant memory!

But we're certainly not feeling the January blues and if the first few days of the new year are anything to go by 2017 is certainly set to be a golden one for us here at Chris Brammall.

We are delighted to have specialist gilder Neil Robson working as part of our team putting the finishing touches to a hand-forged railing commission which will be London bound in a few weeks time.

 Books of gold leaf

Gold leaf is being used to transform the lettering and coat of arms - a main feature of the railings which have been design developed by Chris and created using traditional blacksmith methods. In stark contrast to the patinated steel railings and header panels the gold finish creates a very regal look - certainly fitting for the clients needs.

Gilder at work

Working in carefully controlled conditions - which includes keeping the doors closed to maintain a particular temperature and avoid any uncessary draughts - Neil demonstrates his skills in working with this delicate material.  And with all the tricks and tools of the trade - including brushes of all shapes and sizes - and the patience, attention to detail and eye for perfection needed to be a master gilder we are thrilled to have Neil onboard.

We have also put together a short film showing Neil gilding the gates and railings.  We hope you enjoy.
